We are in the process of restocking the farm with Traditional Hereford Cattle, but with only 600-700 breeding females in the country, it is not an easy task. Our ultimate goal is to have 50 breeding females plus their progeny at Turnastone. We also farm Ryeland and Shropshire sheep and are working towards a flock of 150 breeding ewes plus their followers. By farming Traditional Hereford cattle and Ryeland and Shropshire sheep, we aim to continue the traditions followed on this farm for hundreds of years before us, keep breeds local to this area and support rare and minority breeds. While the cattle and sheep are the main focus on the farm at present, we are also building up our numbers of Tamworth, Berkshire and Tamworth x Berkshire pigs in association with Ray Harris, a well-known expert and enthusiast of keeping pigs in woodland.
